If you guessed petroleum engineering, you are absolutely correct! In case you already know what they do, and if it interests you, you are in luck because the average median salary for a petroleum engineer in 2021 was $130,850! Even more shocking, the top 25% made $167,750. You may be thinking that this sounds too good to be true.


Petroleum engineering is a highly specialized field, so it's important to know what you are getting into.

-Stress is often significant


-Usually best in states that are not the most desirable (think Wyoming, Alaska, Texas, Louisiana)
